Long before becoming Hyacinth Bucket in Keeping Up Appearances on British television, comedienne Patricia Routledge was in a Broadway musical by Jule Styne and E.Y. Harburg. Based on the novel Buried Alive by Arnold Bennett, the show dealt with a painter (Vincent Price) who decides to swap identity with his recently deceased valet. Problems arise when the young fiancée of the valet shows up. The show, which opened in January 1968 at the George Abbott Theatre, benefitted tremendously from Routledge, whose efforts were rewarded with a Tony, but it failed to find an audience and closed after a short run of only 31 performances. First LP release 1968.
