A showcase for choreographer Susan Stroman, the dance musical combined many kinds of music – from classical to rock – displaying the many facets of her talent. The vignettes assembled by John Weidman demonstrated the individuality of the talented cast as well as their polished ensemble. 1,010 performances, a Drama Desk Award, a Tony Award, and an Emmy followed its premiere at the Vivian Beaumont Theatre in March 2000. The dancer in the yellow dress, Deborah Yates, was unforgettable as well as “simply irresistible.”
