An explosive combination of rhythms, colors and sounds, Blast was the brainchild of James Mason, Artistic Director of the Bloomington Star of Indiana. From the moment he assumed responsibilities for the drum and bugle corps in 1984, Star of Indiana placed in the top ten corps at the prestigious Drum Corps International World Championship. It took Mason little time and imagination to see the potential of his team, 60 athlete-musicians strong, as a theatrical entity which began touring the country in 1993. Its arrival in New York signaled a new dimension in theatrical entertainment, with a program ranging from the classical repertoire to the pop field.
